Welcome to the largest forestry forum in Tanzania.
We welcome you all to Iringa . Iringa region accounts for 40% of planted forestry in Tanzania, thus and with pride we welcome you all to the Woodland. The total land area under commercial forestry in Tanzania is estimated at 325,000 hectares, out of which about 60% of this, 207,000 hectares, is in the southern highlands regions of Iringa, Njombe and Mbeya (PFP, 2016). The southern highland region is considered to have some of the best tree growing conditions in the world.
Iringa region is renowned for its long history of tree planting activities, dating back to the 1930s when the first government owned Saohill plantation was established in Mufindi District. To-date it remains the epicentre of forest planting and processing and trade in the country. Dominant trees planted include various sub-species of Pine and Eucalyptus. Other than government plantations, there are plantations and commercial woodlots privately owned by either individuals or companies.
